Is buying a new kitchen meant to be this difficult?

Why do customers walk into showrooms full of options and leave with nothing but more questions? And why hasn’t anyone in the industry fixed this yet?

These are the very questions which inspired the creation of the goodbrother Kitchens brand
Before launching goodbrother Kitchens in 2016, our founder, Jonathan Hayes, spent nearly a decade running a successful digital marketing agency. He specialised in social media advertising and website development at a time when most businesses didn’t even see the value in it. He was ahead of the curve, but tired of convincing others to catch up. What he truly wanted was to build something of his own which really mattered – to be the face of a brand, rather than just pushing other people’s.

From building brands to building kitchens

During his own home renovation project, Jonathan saw first-hand how confusing the kitchen buying process could be. His partner would come back from showroom visits more overwhelmed than informed, unsure why one quote varied by thousands of euros from another, or what actually made one kitchen better than the next.

Talking to others with similar experiences, it became clear that there was a very common problem: this was an industry that had no idea how to market itself in the modern world. There was simply too much complexity, and not enough clarity. Customers weren’t in control of their experience. They kept buying because there wasn’t any other choice, but it was clear there was a huge opportunity here.

Jonathan began attending showroom visits, asking questions, observing what worked and what didn’t and, by early 2016, he was ready to create something new which would transform the kitchen industry and how customers experienced it.

He opened his first showroom in Galway that very year. Focusing on more efficient and streamlined business model than his competitors could offer, Jonathan partnered with The Baumann Group, one of Europe’s leading kitchen and bathroom manufacturers based in Germany, who could offer a level of quality which matched goodbrother Kitchens’ modern, new approach.

It was to prove to be a pivotal decision, and the showroom turned over more than €1million in its first year alone.

Shaping the future as a franchise

After launching in Galway, and later in Dublin in 2020, we made the bold decision in 2023 to consolidate operations into one flagship location and focus entirely on franchising. For us, how we grow the business is as important as how we treat our customers. It’s about doing things the right way: empowering ambitious and like-minded people to take ownership, build something better, and help shape a brand with global ambition.
